The next wave of development in the Lake Nona community is about to break ground. A town center complete with hotels, office space, and shopping center is set to break ground in May and be complete by 2015.
Medical City has been slowly developing over the last 8 years and there is now a significant amount of medical establishments leading the way in medical breakthroughs including Nemours Children’s Hospital, Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, UCF Medical School and the soon to open VA Hospital. The new town center will provide businesses to support Medical City as well as space for businesses unrelated to medical city but useful to residents in the area.
Soon workers and friends and family of patients in Medical City will be able to grab a meal within walking distance. Hotels are on the schedule for the first wave of development and will give families and option for a place to stay near loved ones in hospital care. An apartment building is in the plans as well. A parking garage is in the works to accommodate customers and employees of the town center.
The first stage of construction that will start in May is only a fraction of what is proposed for the total development of the Town Center. Retail shopping space is planned for later stages of development and many residents are anxiously waiting to see how the development of this town center will unfold. Many retailers are excited to be a part of the up and coming retail space as it will be in one of the most popular communities in Florida. So far a solid plan for a 200 room hotel building with two hotels the Marriot Residence Inn and Courtyard by Marriot, an $80,000 square foot office complex with attached parking garage and three eateries, and two restaurants.
Also in the works for Lake Nona development is Gateway Plaza located on Narcoossee Road with lease under contract to medical tenants Florida Hospital, Pegasus Health and the clinical branch of UCF. Lake Nona Village recently opened medical offices and restaurants last year and plans to add about 12,000 square feet of new retail and office space.
Lake Nona is the fastest growing community in Florida and is among the top 20 master planned communities in the nation. Record sales were reported last year with the most single-family home starts in the greater Orlando area more than twice as many as the second place new construction community.
